Due diligence and Planning

A critical aspect of project planning and design development is to identify, consider and manage all environmental constraints and requirements into the project delivery plan. This prevents heartache as the project progresses to construction by avoiding unnecessary and unforeseen project amendments, costs and/or delays.

At Cowie Environmental Services we regularly undertake a range of environmental assessments for various different projects. Our environmental assessments include but aren’t limited to the following:

– Preliminary Site Investigation and Advice;

– Environmental Constraints Assessment;

– Review of Environmental Factors; and

– Environmental Impact Assessment.

Our advice and reports can be utilised to improve designs during during the design development to avoid and reduce impacts to the receiving environment. Furthermore, our reports can support the application of environmental approvals, contract development and onsite management plans (e.g. EMPs).

Approvals

Cowie Environmental Services has extensive experience in the development, coordination and delivery of all necessary environmental project approvals at a Commonwealth, State/Territory and Local Government Levels. We take great care in ensuring that our Clients don’t stress and that any necessary approvals are managed efficiently with minimal fuss.

Our planning and environmental approval services include but aren’t limited to:

– Referable actions under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999;

– Environmentally relevant activities under the Environmental Protection Act 1994;

– Operational work development approvals (e.g. Waterway Barrier Works) in accordance with the Planning Act 2016; and

– Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

Construction support

The development and application of an appropriate site-specific Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and associated sub-plans is a critical component of any live construction. When engaging with a client our team ensures that only practical plans and procedures are developed to manage all inherent environmental risks of the project. Our plans can include appropriate monitoring and auditing programs which will support the project team in demonstrating compliance with all regulatory and approval requirements/conditions.

Compliance obligations whether during construction or to maintain certification can always be difficult to understand, however by engaging Cowie Environmental Services we can provide organisations with the assistance to maintain compliance, reduce risk and avoid potential infringements. All our audits are comprehensive, with findings presented in a manner suited to our clients while being easy to understand.

Cowie Environmental Services has a certified principal audit in Brendan Cowie who can undertake audits during construction or to validate existing environmental management systems. It is our approach to work with our Client not to find deficiencies bur rather to identify improvement opportunities through constructive and practical feedback.

If a certified audit is not required, contact us to organise a gap analysis against your existing approval requirements or an informal inspection to ensure general compliance is being maintained and we can appropriately highlight any existing risks which may exist on the project.
